20 Sep Utah Legal Issues in Disasters Workshop, September 13-14, 2017
This pilot workshop highlighted the American Bar Association’s Resolution 108 and Report on Community Resilience initiatives, adopted as the ABA’s official policy in February 2017. It was designed as a Continuing Legal Education program, focusing on legal and policy opportunities for attorneys and communities prior to disasters. The workshop was delivered to city and county emergency managers and their attorneys at the Viridian Event Center in West Jordan, Utah. The attorney presenters comprised Edward A. Thomas, President, Natural Hazard Mitigation Association (NHMA); John Travis Marshall, Law Professor, Georgia State University Law School; George B. Huff Jr., Director of Consulting, The Continuity Project, LLC; Erin Capps, NHMA and H2O Partners; and Lisa Sun, Assistant Professor of Disaster Law, Brigham Young University.
